How to Wait Patiently for God's Timing

A few years ago, I began a spiritual and emotional journey like no other. It took me through deep valleys and dark days. The road was long, and the weight was heavy.

Personally, I was waiting on a Godly relationship. For the Lord to bless me with my future husband and the man He had planned for me to spend the rest of my life with.

I prayed hard, tried taking the situation into my own hands at times, and got really discouraged along the way!

Perhaps you’re in a season of waiting yourself, and you can relate to what I was feeling. Maybe you’re not waiting on a future relationship exactly, but a job promotion, healing from an illness, or an answer from God on what to do with your life.

Whatever you’re waiting on, the process can get pretty exhausting! But I learned along the way how we as Christians can embrace this season in a positive way. And I’d like to share it with you!

So how can we get through these tough times more easily, and have more patience while waiting on God’s timing?

Change Your Perspective

A huge part of getting through any situation in life is the way you look at it. When we consider our season of waiting as a negative obstacle keeping us from reaching what we really want, then that’s exactly what it’s going to be!

You might be thinking.. But Cassidy, isn’t that what it really is? Something unpleasant I have to deal with because that’s just life?

No, not at all! Yeah, waiting on God’s timing CAN be painful… and it CAN be an obstacle. But only if we let it. The key to changing it all around is switching our mindset!

Instead of thinking the following:

  • I’ll never get what I’ve been praying for.

  • This is taking too long.

  • God, have you forgotten me?

  • I’m not good enough for (whatever you’ve been waiting for).

  • This is just a low valley in life that I have to get through. No good can come of this.

Think this instead!

  • God is gonna bless me with what I’ve been praying for if I just have faith!

  • I feel like this is taking a long time, but I know that God’s timing is always perfect!

  • I know God hasn’t forgotten me. He’s just working in the background where I can’t see!

  • I’m worthy in God’s eyes of what He’s promised to give me!

  • God uses all parts of life for my good, and I know He’s doing something amazing in me through this!

When we start changing our outlook from negative to positive, then we can truly start to enjoy and appreciate the season God has allowed us to be in at the moment!

Accept That You’re Not Ready Yet

A huge reason that God allows us to be in seasons of waiting is because we just aren’t ready yet for what He’s going to give us. When God blesses us with something, He wants us to steward it well!

If you’re waiting on a Godly relationship, God wants you to be the best partner you can for your significant other. If you’re praying for a job promotion then God wants you to do that job to the best of your ability.

Have you ever thought that maybe you aren’t in the right place spiritually or emotionally to be the best girlfriend and wife that you’re capable of being? Or maybe you haven’t gained enough insight and skills yet to do that job as well as you think you could?

God knows exactly what we need when we need it! Even when we think we may be ready for things that, in truth, we really aren’t ready for. Trust the Lord’s timing because He knows what’s best. And accept that maybe, just maybe, you’re not prepared yet to take on what He’s gonna give you.

That’s why it’s important to embrace your season of waiting, because in this season is when God is preparing you for the next step! If you want a Godly husband, strive to become a Godly wife! If you want to start a business, learn all you can about how to do it well!

In this time of learning and growth, you can prosper more than you ever thought possible.

Know That Your Waiting Has a Purpose

A lot of times, this purpose is what we just discussed above: preparing you for what’s coming next. But sometimes it doesn’t even have to do with you!

Maybe God isn’t preparing you, but He’s preparing your future husband! Maybe He’s waiting on a job opening for a promotion that you aren’t even thinking about! He could be moving the right people into the right place for just the right time.

There’s so much that goes on behind the scenes that we can’t see, which is why we have to trust God wholeheartedly! That’s why Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.” We can’t possible comprehend all of the factors that make up creating the exact situation in which we are praying for.

But God does.

So let’s trust Him to do His job, and know that if He has us waiting then it’s for a really good reason!

Yours In Christ,

Cassidy
