As simple as loving yourself sounds, I know it isn't simple like that for most girls, including me. As I have battled comparison BIG time myself.

I’ll always remember coming home from school and telling my mom how ugly I was, that I just wanted to be like my friends. No matter what she told me, I argued back and didn't believe her that I really was a, “Special, one of a kind girl who is beautiful inside and out.” I vaguely remember trying everything to make me feel good about myself, hanging out with the “Cool group,” convincing my parents to buy me new shoes and all. Then, getting that one comment from the one girl. I remember starting to workout because I HATED my external appearance and at such a young age. Comparison really is the thief of joy. I wish I would've known this sooner.

What is the definition of a healthy lifestyle? Before entering my graduate nutrition program, I would’ve told you that what you eat and how you workout is what really counts. Even though those are two important elements of a healthy lifestyle, there is more to health than that. If you truly want to live a healthy lifestyle, you also need to take care of your mind and soul.

It’s 2019. We’re living in the most progressive and digital age in history. Americans have unlimited educational resources at their fingertips, courtesy of the Internet. You might assume that our country is thriving and everyone is living their best life ever. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. In comparison to other high-income countries, Americans aren’t living as long and 19.1% of the country is diagnosed with anxiety each year (1).

When we look health related to nutrition, ¾ of Americans have an eating pattern that is low in fruits, vegetables, dairy, and healthy oils (2). And the majority of people are eating more than the recommended daily intake of sugars, saturated fats, and sodium (2).

Clearly, what the media and mainstream health authorities have been promoting isn’t working. People are living with nutritional deficiencies, disease and less happiness relative to the quality of life (1). You can eat healthy and follow nutrition and exercise recommendations to the T. But if you’re not nourishing your mind and soul with a relationship with Jesus, you’ll continue to feel unfulfilled and struggle with your health. 

The solution? Invite the Lord to walk with you and follow His Word as you actively live a healthy lifestyle!

In today’s world, we all face troubles, fighting numerous battles that can make the day-to-day more difficult than we would like.

Some battles are fought in the open, physically and for all to see. But other battles are more internal, sometimes never being known or acknowledged by others around us.

Mental health problems are a huge crisis today, with illnesses such as anxiety and depression debilitating countless people. Some may think that Christians wouldn’t have to deal with these battles, but it is far from the case.

The body of Christ is being hit with the same mental struggles as non-Christians and the result is saddening.
