How to Honor God by Living a Healthy Lifestyle featuring The Nourishing Soul Co.

What is the definition of a healthy lifestyle? Before entering my graduate nutrition program, I would’ve told you that what you eat and how you workout is what really counts. Even though those are two important elements of a healthy lifestyle, there is more to health than that. If you truly want to live a healthy lifestyle, you also need to take care of your mind and soul.

It’s 2019. We’re living in the most progressive and digital age in history. Americans have unlimited educational resources at their fingertips, courtesy of the Internet. You might assume that our country is thriving and everyone is living their best life ever. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case. In comparison to other high-income countries, Americans aren’t living as long and 19.1% of the country is diagnosed with anxiety each year (1).

When we look health related to nutrition, ¾ of Americans have an eating pattern that is low in fruits, vegetables, dairy, and healthy oils (2). And the majority of people are eating more than the recommended daily intake of sugars, saturated fats, and sodium (2).

Clearly, what the media and mainstream health authorities have been promoting isn’t working. People are living with nutritional deficiencies, disease and less happiness relative to the quality of life (1). You can eat healthy and follow nutrition and exercise recommendations to the T. But if you’re not nourishing your mind and soul with a relationship with Jesus, you’ll continue to feel unfulfilled and struggle with your health.

The solution? Invite the Lord to walk with you and follow His Word as you actively live a healthy lifestyle!

His Ways Are Not My Ways featuring Sarah Paige Diaries

I will never forget the day I sat on the floor of my bedroom crying my eyes out because my life was going in a completely opposite direction from where I thought it was going. When I finished high school, I made a failed attempt at going to Bible college, and then I moved home and started working at my church. I was a production assistant and focused mainly on sound, lights, and graphics. And I loved my job. I loved every single second of it and decided it was what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

A Prayer for Depression

In today’s world, we all face troubles, fighting numerous battles that can make the day-to-day more difficult than we would like.

Some battles are fought in the open, physically and for all to see. But other battles are more internal, sometimes never being known or acknowledged by others around us.

Mental health problems are a huge crisis today, with illnesses such as anxiety and depression debilitating countless people. Some may think that Christians wouldn’t have to deal with these battles, but it is far from the case.

The body of Christ is being hit with the same mental struggles as non-Christians and the result is saddening.

Quiet time with God is such an important part of a Christian lifestyle. Being a Christian is about having a deep, intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

How to Be Thankful (Even When Nothing is Going Right)

It’s a fact of life that sometimes things just don’t go the way we would like them to. We’ve all experienced shortcomings, hardships, and journeys through the valley. Not every part of life can be spent on the mountaintop!

Jesus reminds us of this in John 16:33 where he says, “…In the world you will have tribulation…” However, there’s another verse (1 Thessalonians 5:18) that tells us, “give thanks in all circumstances…”

The two verses almost seem contradictory, like they shouldn’t be written in the same book. Yet, there they are. We are instructed to give thanks always, even through our troubles.

But such a commandment can seem so daunting and unrealistic at times, especially when life’s hardships are so painful. How could we possibly lift up thanks for such crummy circumstances?

How to Stop Being an Excessive Planner

Are you an excessive planner? A bonafide perfectionist? Maybe even a little bit of a control-freak? Hey.. me too, girl!

I’ve always been religious with carrying a planner, writing down anything and everything that’s going on in my life. You could always count on me to plan any party, trip, or hangout session down to the minute (I apologize to all of my friends and family that I’ve probably stressed to the max due to my obsession).

I’d always get comments like “Why can’t we just go with the flow?” or “Why does it matter if we’re a little late?”

But thinking about just one thing going wrong because I didn’t plan everything down to the smallest detail gave me nightmares. I’ve always thought that the perfect plan was the solution to any problem!

But what if trying to have the perfect plan is the actual problem?

15 Day Self Care Challenge

This fall season has been a time of growth for me. Because of this, I’ve realized that a huge part of personal growth includes self-care!

Self-care has gotten a lot of recognition lately and, as Christians, I think it’s important for us to recognize the importance of it. However, we need to do it in the right way.

Changing your routine to revolve all around us and our needs is definitely not what followers of Jesus should be doing, even though that’s what a lot of the world would tell us.

We must learn to break through what the worldly view of self-care means, and figure out how God would want us to take care of ourselves.

Healthy Night Time Routine for Over Thinkers: Get Better Sleep

If you’re like me, the biggest thing that prevents you from a good night’s rest is your mind!

Swirling thoughts, crazy ideas, silly what-ifs, and replays of the day’s events all bang around together up there like a ball in a pinball machine, making it really hard to relax and go to sleep. Sound familiar?

It’s all apart of our brain trying to process the day and catalogue it away in our memory. But, boy, can it make it difficult to fall asleep on time!

As much as biology plays a part in this, I also think it’s a way the devil tries to get us down and mess with us. Overthinking and racing thoughts are just a couple of the mechanisms the enemy uses to destroy our peace. And what a better time to do it than when we’re lying in bed!

4 Steps to Forgive Those Who've Hurt You

Forgiveness can be a sticky, tricky thing.

We know we should.. But we don’t always know how.

We know we need to.. But we don’t always want to.

It can be so hard to completely forgive someone who’s hurt us or done us wrong in some way. Our human nature doesn’t want to let go so easily!

Can you relate??

I definitely can! Growing up, I had a couple of friends who did me wrong. I found out they were talking about me behind my back, making me look bad to others, and one even eventually dropped me with no explanation.

Like seriously blocked me on all social media, stopped returning my texts, and basically never talked to me ever again! Harsh right?
