7 Godly Truths for Overcoming Anxiety

What if there was a way to be free from the chains of anxiety?

What if we could escape all the constant worrying and fears of the future?

What if I told you an anxious mind isn't God's plan for you?

All of that is possible and true, and laid out for us in God's Word!

Do you know what the Bible really says about fear? Let's dig deeper into His truths to unlock God's gift of peace, and start the journey to an anxiety-free life!

1. God Is Always With Us

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Sometimes fear comes from being afraid to be alone. We feel like we can't do it on our own, and we're scared we won't succeed. But guess what?

God's Word tells us that we are never alone! And on top of that, He will always give us the strength to do the task that He has set before us while lending a helping hand every step of the way!

2. God Gives Us Peace

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

The strongest fighter against fear is PEACE! Thankfully for us, as Christians, God has a never-ending supply of peace to give out!

But how do I access that peace?

With prayer! Philippians 4 says to pray in every situation (especially when you're anxious). Make sure to thank the Lord, and then just ask Him for what you need. Ask Him to let His peace flow over you and to rescue you from the wicked anxiety you're facing in that moment.

3. Fear Doesn't Come From God

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7

Sometimes in our most anxious and fearful moments we ask, "Why does God let me feel this way?" If you've ever thought this, then you can rest in the amazing truth that fear and anxiety simply doesn't come from the Lord!

Fear is a mechanism used by Satan to distract you, hold you back, and ultimately destroy any good that you try to do for God! The enemy wants nothing more than to hurt you and ruin your Godly plans. But evil can always be conquered by the Lord! He has given us power, love, and a sound mind (as mentioned in 2 Timothy), so surely He will help us use that!

4. God Cares About Your Fears

“Humble yourselves, then, under God’s mighty hand, so that He will lift you up in His own good time. Leave all your worries with Him, because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

When you're worried and anxious, tell God about it! He wants to hear about what you're going through. He's not too busy or too big to listen to the troubles of his precious children. He loves you and cares about you!

Lay down your burdens at His feet, my friend.

5. God Will Never Let Us Down

“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.” Psalm 55:22

“Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.” Proverbs 29:25

One of the biggest parts of overcoming anxiety is having faith! God's Word tells us plainly that He will never let us fall and will always keep us safe! But what good does that do if we don't believe it?

Anxiety causes us to doubt, but we must learn to immediately nip those thoughts in the bud and replace it with the what the Lord says. God will always come through!

6. God Knows The Future

"For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

Worries, fears, and anxious thoughts are focused on the future. What if this happens? What if this doesn't happen? What will I do if...? We wonder and obsess about things that haven't even taken place yet!

God knows this, so He placed a wonderful truth for us in His Word. He tells us that He already knows the future, and not only that, He planned good things for it! We don't need to worry about the future when God's already there.

7. God Always Provides

"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air... your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?" Matthew 6:25-34

Another common source of anxiety is worrying about our resources. Will I make enough money this paycheck to pay the bills? Can we support another child? Did God really tell me to help out someone else when I can hardly pay to help myself?

In Matthew 6, God tells us plainly that He will always take care of our necessities. The Lord provides food for the birds, water for the wildflowers, and He will always feed and clothe those who follow Him!
